We want to share a success story from our Travelers Aid program. This program helps connect people to safe housing elsewhere in the country. Your donations of food, luggage, blankets, and dollars make a HUGE difference to people in our community. THANK YOU SO MUCH for shopping our Wishlist.
In June, 2024, a girl (late teens, early 20s) came to Charlotte from Atlanta to be with her father and step mom. Unfortunately, her father became abusive when she arrived to Charlotte. She has hyperglycemia, meaning that eating on a routine is critical to maintain a consistent flow of glucose to stabilize her blood sugar, but her father would refuse to feed her. Her father and step mom would eat dinner in front of her without giving her anything to eat. This caused her to temporarily lose her eye sight and experience vertigo. She talked with staff on the phone a few times before she was able to sneak out while her dad was at work. She came to Community Link and we were able to pay for her travel to family and friends elsewhere in the country. We were able to give her new luggage, food, snacks, and a blanket for her trip. Staff has followed up through a phone call and she’s in a safe and nourishing environment now.
