Our mission is to enable individuals and families to obtain and sustain safe, decent and affordable housing.

About Us

Community Link was founded in 1929 as a Travelers Aid Society; the all-volunteer YWCA project, based at a Charlotte bus station, served disadvantaged Mecklenburg County women. In the 1950s, the agency expanded to help low-income workers find and keep housing. In 1995, the agency rebranded as Community Link to reflect its broader mission and comprehensive networking, referral, and housing activities. Other highlights include:

  • 2002: Became one of the first Black-led non-profits in Charlotte/Mecklenburg when Floyd R. Davis, Jr. became CEO and president

  • 2004: Began providing homeownership education and counseling to customers living on low incomes

  • 2005: Launched the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program

  • 2009–2012: Implemented Federal Homeless Prevention & Rapid Rehousing Program for Mecklenburg and Piedmont Regions

  • 2019: Facilitated rehousing of 118 families, directly rehousing 32 families, being evicted from the Lake Arbor Apartments in Charlotte

  • 2020: Successfully continued to provide services virtually during the COVID-19 quarantine

  • 2021: Expanded virtual foreclosure prevention services to 7 additional counties

  • 2023: Tameka Gunn was promoted from Vice President to become President and CEO of Community Link

Today, Community Link is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a mission to enable individuals and families to obtain and sustain safe, decent and affordable housing.
