CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Tameka Gunn from Community Link joined Charlotte Today on Friday to discuss the organization's efforts in providing safe, decent, and affordable housing. Community Link, a cornerstone in the community since 1929, continues to make a significant impact on families in need.

Gunn shared the rich history of Community Link, which began as a traveler's aid society. Today, the organization focuses on helping families achieve and sustain homeownership through various programs. "We do pre-homeownership education and counseling, foreclosure prevention, and we also prepare taxes during tax season," Tameka explained. The organization also continues its traveler's aid program, providing comprehensive support to the community.

One of the key programs offered by Community Link is homeownership education and counseling. "We're actually getting people mortgage-ready, really helping that first-time homebuyer," Tameka noted. Certified housing counselors work closely with individuals, guiding them through the process of becoming homeowners.

Tameka highlighted some of the common challenges faced by individuals seeking homeownership. "The dream of being a homeowner may be difficult for some," she said. "We provide them with the steps, resources, and connections to lenders and realtors to help them find their home." The organization addresses issues such as income challenges and the lack of affordable housing inventory, ensuring personalized support for each client.

Community Link's impact is evident in the numbers. "We helped 193 families keep their homes through our foreclosure prevention program," Tameka shared. Additionally, the organization has housed over 1,000 families across several counties in the state, demonstrating their commitment to making a tangible difference in the community.

For those interested in learning more or getting involved, Tamika provided information on how to connect with Community Link, visit communitylinkNC.org, and follow them on all social channels. The organization is always looking for volunteers and donations to support their mission.
