CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - Do you need help filing your tax return? If so, read on.

Tameka Gunn, president, and CEO of Community Link, joined the show to tell us about their free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program and explain how it works.

Gunn said they prepared about 1,625 tax returns for free last year with an average refund of about $990 and their program bought back $1,609,053 in refunds to the Charlotte region and local economy.

The free service is geared toward moderate-income taxpayers who earn $64,000 per year or less and seeks to assist them in obtaining and sustaining safe and affordable housing.

According to Gunn, many people are unaware that they are entitled to refunds through the Earned Income Tax Credit, money that can make the financial burden more bearable.

You can seek assistance from one of their IRS-certified volunteers on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Appointments are not required and a list of the documents you’ll need to bring is available on their website.

For more information, be sure to follow them on Facebook and Instagram as well.
