CHARLOTTE — A Charlotte nonprofit is providing education for first-time homeowners.

Nyamekye and Quonnetta Johnson are new homeowners who are benefiting from Community Link.

“Without them, you know, this wouldn’t have been possible,” Nyamekye said. “We discussed financial assistance so that we didn’t have to do like a down payment.”

Tameka Gunn is the president of Community Link and said they helped the Johnsons through the entire buying process.

“They received personalized counseling with a certified HUD counselor around what the home buying process looks like and how to become mortgage-ready,” Gunn said.

Once ready, the Johnsons turned the house into a home. They also have an ADU on their property, which is a smaller residential unit. It already has a unit: Quonnetta‘s mother.

Gunn said the ADU is part of the city’s 2040 plan to maximize space and land.
