Learn valuable skills, build your résumé, and network with area professionals, all while helping low-income working neighbors.
Every tax filing season hundreds of local volunteers help low-to-moderate income individuals prepare and e-file their taxes at no cost to them.
This IRS initiative, known as the Volunteer Income Tax Initiative (VITA), is spearheaded locally by Community Link. You will be helping people access refunds to provide much-needed relief and achieve goals like reducing debt, establishing a savings fund, and covering general household, educational, or medical expenses.
You will receive training to certify as an IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistant (VITA). Vita Volunteers prepare tax returns, at no cost, for hard working individuals and families with low to moderate income.
If preparing taxes is not your ideal assignment we also need Greeters, Interpreters, and Site Coordinators.
We will provide:
- Free tax law training
- E-file software training
- Administrative support
- A great volunteer experience!
Availability: Annually, January – April 15 (training in late December/early January).
- Time commitment: varied times based on your availability, but expect to commit at least 35-40 hours.
- Training required: 13-16 hours of classroom education plus any self study; must pass volunteer certification.

Stretch a mind to exercise good financial decisions! You’ll meet monthly with a Community Link customer to mentor them on basic financial decision-making and help that individual build a better future. Become a trusted friend to help a customer on their journey to housing self-sufficiency, addressing areas such as developing and following a budget, decreasing debt, and increasing savings.
- Availability: Ongoing, varied times.
- Training: Up to two hour orientation is required; notification of orientation will be made once a volunteer application is submitted.
- Time commitment: meeting schedule is set by customer and coach, meeting a minimum of once a month.

Guest Services Member
If you enjoy greeting, talking with people, and administrative work, this is the role for you! You will be the first face and voice that customers experience when they come to Community Link for help.
- Availability: Weekdays, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- Time commitment: Two-hours per week, time varies on your availability.
Serving behind-the-scenes and networking might be your passion. Share your expertise on one of our organizational committees (audit, endowment, finance, human resources, marketing/development, strategic planning, Sweet Escapes fundraiser).
