Krystal has always been a hard worker. She served our country for eight years in the US Army reserves. Krystal’s husband left unexpectedly, leading to a divorce that left Krystal with sole responsibility for her children. She had very little income and no family support. Her life was turned upside down and she was facing eviction.
Krystal sought refuge at an emergency homeless shelter, but her stay was coming to an end. “I was two seconds from living in my car,” says Krystal.
That’s when she found Community Link!
We stepped in, helped Krystal find an apartment for her family. We did so through our Homeless to Housing Veterans service. A temporary rental subsidy bolstered her financial situation and a social worker visited 2-3 times each month to provide Krystal with a lifeline of support!
Today, Krystal is in the management-training program at Family Dollar and doing well. Most important, she and her kids now have a safe, decent, AND affordable place to call home. Krystal says, “Things are getting better every day. And what I really like is that this does not make me feel like a charity case. These people helped me because I’m trying to help myself. I’m in a good place now and headed in the right direction!”
