This is a true story about a couple we will call William and Cynthia. They’re a joyful couple. But they were nearing complete desperation when they reached out to us at Community Link.

William is almost 60 years old and legally blind due to diabetes. He worked all his life, until his vision made that impossible five years ago. Though Cynthia tries to look after her husband and earn a living to support them both, it's hard.

The family fell behind in their mortgage payments. They negotiated with the bank, but the bank foreclosed. Their home was scheduled to be sold in a week. They had no place to go.

Then they contacted Community Link, who applied to a funding program for hard-hit families on the couple's behalf. The fund paid $50,000 towards the couple's mortgage principal, and $21,000 to make up the arrears on the mortgage.

Now they will be able to make their new mortgage payments on the reduced principal. They can stay in their home—the home that William knows even through blindness.

They are a model of persevering through adversity. It’s been a privilege to work with them.
